Normally, an ultrasound examination will determine the size of the pregnancy, i.e., the gestational age, to best advise you on the method. However, we do not want to interfere in a couple’s decision-making process about whether to proceed with an abortion.

This is one of the most common questions women ask because there is still the myth that a woman cannot get pregnant after an abortion. Fertility is not impaired after an abortion, provided it is medically correctly performed using a suction curettage. In fact, a woman can become pregnant again immediately after the abortion.

If an abortion is carefully performed according to medical standards with a suction curettage, there is no medical limit to the number of possible abortions. Of course, multiple unwanted pregnancies should be avoided through a safe contraception method – we are also happy to advise on this.

The day of the abortion is considered the first day of the new cycle. The next ovulation occurs two to three weeks after the abortion. You can, of course, become pregnant again immediately if you do not use safe contraception! You should start hormonal contraception methods on the day of the surgical abortion. If you have a long-term contraception wish, we can also insert an IUD or hormonal IUD during the surgical abortion. For medical abortions, you start a hormonal contraception method of your choice on the day of the abortion - at the start of bleeding.

Generally, depending on the week of pregnancy, an abortion is a relatively minor procedure, thus complications are very rare. At our center, surgical abortions are always conducted under the highest safety and quality standards by experienced gynecologists and anesthesiologists.

After the procedure, there is usually mild bleeding that diminishes in the following days and eventually stops entirely. Occasionally, the bleeding after the procedure is very light or not present at all; an increase in bleeding intensity even after several days is not unusual. Typical pain similar to menstrual cramps for 1-2 days after the abortion is completely normal and can be managed well with conventional painkillers.
